Clinical Trials Of SNS-595 And SNS-314 For Patients With Relapsed And Refractory Acute Leukemias
Sunesis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNSS) announced that patient dosing has commenced in clinical trials to evaluate two of the company's anti-cancer product candidates, SNS-595 and SNS-314. Sunesis' lead product candidate, SNS-595, is being evaluated in combination with cytarabine in a Phase 1b clinical trial of patients with relapsed and/or refractory acute leukemias.

Results from a Mayo Clinic laboratory study in animals suggest that using distraction osteogenesis, a procedure that uses the mechanical force of an appliance to lengthen soft tissue and bone, may be a feasible and effective method to repair cleft palate in the future. Cleft palate is a common birth defect in which a child is born with a gap in the roof of the mouth. This condition occurs in one out of 700 to 1,000 births in the United States.
Concerns Raised About New Private-Public Research Partnership To Support FDA
FDA seems to be moving "with unusual speed" to organize a private-public foundation to help support the agency, and some critics are saying the initiative might be "little more than a front for the industries it regulates," CQ Today reports. The group, known as the Reagan-Udall Foundation, was established in the FDA reauthorization legislation, which President Bush signed into law Sept. 27.
